Welcome to the Cayman Islands!
So you’ve finally made it to paradise. Just a couple of things to note that are important for the visitor-
Visitors are required to present a valid passport, nationals of the US, UK and Canada no photo copies accepted, subject to length of stay and possession of an onward/return ticket. Nationals of the US, UK or Commonwealth countries, European Union countries, Japan and certain other countries do not require visas. A US visa is normally required for travel via the US, although special in-transit arrangements can be made in Miami. It is always wise to double check entry requirements with your travel agent to ensure you travel with all required documents. Keep in mind that all visitors should land in the Islands with a return ticket and enough money to finance their stay.
The CI$1.00 is worth US$1.25. Be prepared for the exchange rate, and outside of town, most businesses will only give you change in CI Dollars. The good news is that the duty-free prices on the island are terrific, and in town all prices are in either US Dollars or have both US$ and CI$ price tags, so you don’t have to pull out the paper and pen and start doing the math……multiplied by, carry the one etc.
Being a British Crown Colony, we drive on the left side of the road down here. If you absolutely insist on driving on the right, be prepared to accept the consequences, which, could be pretty dire. The highest speed limit locally is 50mph, so watch for the signs and your speedometer. The fines are higher here than in the United States, and only cash is accepted as payment for a ticket.
Enjoy your stay with us in the Cayman Islands. Visit our Museum, our attractions, and eat at our many fine dining establishments. Share the Caribbean Sea as their stage, the wonderful food, exceptional surroundings an experience you won’t soon forget. We hope you take fond memories of Cayman home with you, and that you’ll be back again very soon to share paradise with us! Enjoy.
